It's just a style. It's a movement/style. People can deny it all they like, but its too wide spread not to be.
The only issue with this is that there are a lot of people who draw nothing but lifeless anime looking characters over and over without studying the basics and applying any artistic aspect to it. Then they call it 'art' and 'their style'. Art requires a certain amount of understanding of art itself. Without that understanding, a flat anime character with big glittery eyes on a piece of paper has no chance of being art.
I would like my works to be considered art one day.
